Special Session on Evolved Technologies for the Future Internet of Things

The existing Internet has inconspicuously transformed into the Internet of Things (IoT) with an estimated more than ten of billions of connected IoT devices in 2018. The existence of IoT devices, each of which is a tiny smart object, enables a plethora of useful services for improving the human's quality of life. However, it has challenged the Internet to be evolved to adapt to the new requirements of IoT services excellently. In the next few years, the Internet of Things is envisioned to leverage the global interconnection as well as the fifth generation of mobile networks (5G) and beyond to serve a more massive number of IoT devices. Besides, the quality of service requirements of IoT will be more severe than the current ones, ranging from network performance such as low-latency and high-throughput to security and privacy. Therefore, along with novel technologies, there are high demands in evolving existing Internet technologies for future IoT (e.g., wireless power transfer technologies for prolonging the network lifetime, edge computing for network performance enhancement, distributed ledger for strengthening privacy and security, etc.). This special session on Evolved Technologies for the Future Internet of Things will aim to bring together researchers and scientists from academia and industry to first facilitate networking among colleagues. Moreover, this session will bring a venue for them to present and discuss their latest research results, explore new ideas in the IoT systems research and practice. Besides, we plan to invite leading experts in the field to share their experience.

Topics of interests include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Evolved networking paradigms (SDN, NFV, etc.) for IoT;
  • Evolved computing platforms (edge computing, fog computing, etc.) for IoT;

  • Big data, machine learning, AI, and analytics for IoT systems;
  • Application, prototypes, and testbed for IoT;
  • Experiences from real-world experiments and deployments of IoT;
  • TCP/IP performance in IoT environments;
  • Performance analysis and optimization of IoT systems;
  • Wireless Sensor Networks and applications;
  • Security and Privacy Issues in IoT;
  • Standardization activities for IoT;
  • IoT computing, IoT modeling, IoT performance measurements;
  • 5G IoT modeling and traffic characteristics.

All accepted papers will be published in the ICCE 2020 Conference Proceedings. Fully accepted papers will be forwarded to be published on IEEE Xplore®.
